Adolescent Vaccination

Adolescence is a critical time for vaccination — some vaccines are specifically recommended for this age group to protect against diseases that commonly affect teens or to establish immunity before adulthood.

- HPV: Human papillomavirus vaccine, starting at 11-12 years

- COVID-19: Updated vaccines recommended
HPV Vaccination
HPV vaccine prevents cancers caused by human papillomavirus. ACIP recommends vaccination starting at age 11-12, but it can be given as early as age 9.
- Prevents 6 cancers including cervical, throat, and anal cancers
- Two doses if started before age 15
- Three doses if started at age 15 or later
School Requirements
Many states require certain vaccines for school attendance, which has been associated with higher coverage rates among adolescents.
